I have had many kidney stones, and the symptoms of this event was like the others. I have worked in the health care field for many years and I do not take going to the ER lightly. I do believe that patients should be seen again and given results of testing by a physician before being discharged by a nurse.
I spent 5 hours in the ER with what I thought was a kidney stone. After Triage, I was immediately escorted to an exam room, where I waited for and hour and a half before being seen by anyone at all. Then the physician came in for all of 30 seconds and said that he was ordering a CT scan and was going to order a pain shot. 45 minutes later a nurse came with the pain shot and then the CT technician came and got me for the CT scan. I was gone from the ER for a total of about 10 minutes. When I got back to the room from the CT Scan, I started feeling funny from the pain injection. I reported this to the nurse and she said she would be back in a few minutes to check on me. She didn't come back. An hour and a half later, another nurse came in and said "home sweet home." I never saw the physician again. I'm still not certain if I had a stone or not, the nurse flipped through the paperwork and said that all it said was back pain. She gave me a prescription and sent me out the door.
